Morgan Creek

Come out and git yer 'grass on!

Morgan Creek, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is dedicated to the preservation of traditional bluegrass music, paying tribute to the Fathers of the genre. From Flatt and Scruggs, the Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, and Jimmy Martin to the Country Gentlemen, this Tar Heel band captures that high lonesome sound with soaring harmonies, hard driving banjo, and solid rhythm that will take you back to a time before country music became what it is today. Whether it's songs about cabins in the hills, broken hearts, prison, trains, or undying love, Morgan Creek bridges the past to the present as one of the very best traditional bluegrass bands in this area.

About the band

Who we are

Morgan Creek consists of 5 experienced musicians from the Chapel Hill/Durham area:  Clint Brooks, (fiddle/vocals) from Durham, NC, Kirk Lawrence, (mandolin/vocals) originally from Elkin, NC, John McNeal, (guitar/vocals) originally from Asheville, NC, Nat Smith, (upright bass) from Chapel Hill, and Michael Booze, (banjo/vocals) originally from Kingsport, TN.  Drawn together by a love and appreciation for traditional bluegrass, we came together to share the music with those who have always loved it and expose it to those who never had the chance to experience this most original form of American music.

Morgan Creek has performed throughout the Triangle, appearing many times at the Blue Note Grill in Durham, Dare County Arts Council First Friday Music Series in Manteo/OBX,  Beer 'n Banjos (Raleigh Times Bar), Bynum Front Porch (Pittsboro), Carolina Inn Fridays' on the Front Porch series (Chapel Hill).  The year marked the boys' inaugaral performance at the Heritage Stage during the 2023 NC State Fair.

Taking the name from one of the most historic areas in Chapel Hill, Morgan Creek promises to deliver hard driving bluegrass and that high lonesome sound anywhere, anytime.
